Six Little Ducks - Song Page

Background

Picture
Ducks are a kind of waterfowl - a bird that lives mostly on the water.  They can fly but they also have webbed feet that help them swim in the water.  Ducks are related to swans and geese.  Ducks lay eggs.

In this song there are 6 little ducks - led by 1 quacking duck with a feather on his back.    Children love clapping their hands together (or tapping on a tambourine) as the sing "quack, quack, quack" during the chorus.  This song can also be used as a catalyst for discussion about what makes a good leader.  In this song, the leader duck gets the 5 other duck's attention with a nice loud assertive series of quacks.

UNITS:  This song is a great accompaniment to discussions on ecosystems (ponds, lakes and rivers) as well as birds (ducks), counting (the number 6) and music (rhythm).

WHAT YOU'LL HEAR IN THE SONG:

SEAN FLEMING vocals and acoustic guitar
ELIN FLEMING backup vocals
MAEVE FLANAGAN tin whistle

He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack

2. For each quack, ask the children to sing while they extend their arms forward and clap hands with each "quack" (with outstretched arms)

Lyrics

Six little ducks
That I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones,
Fair ones, too
But the one little duck
With the feather on his back
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack

Down to the river
They would go with a
Wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble,
To and fro
But the one little duck
With the feather on his back
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack

Back from the river
They would come with a
Wibble, wobble, wibble, wobble,
Ho, hum, hum
But the one little duck
With the feather on his back
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack,
Quack, quack, quack
He led the others
With a quack, quack, quack
